Straight red card for Blomqvist

The Irish Times - Monday - Sport - - Soccer -

The Sun had an interview last week with former Swedish international Jesper Blomqvist, the mere mention of his name likely to result in steam emitting from the ears of Roy Keane devotees.

Blomqvist was the fella whose ‘misplaced’ pass led to Keane bringing down Zinedine Zidane during the 1999 Champions League semi-final against Juventus, the resulting booking ruling him out of the final.

“Of course he was angry because it was a big game to miss,” said Blomqvist, “but I think it was a bit harsh to blame me for that yellow card. I’ve looked at the video again and I think even he can have a laugh about it.” You’d have your doubts, to be honest, but if he’s brave enough to show Roy the video of the incident again, hats off to him.

Way more unforgivable, though, was the abomination Blomqvist made for the Sun when they visited his pizzeria in Sweden, one he opened six months ago with two business partners. Yes, that’s a pizza smothered in Nutella and strawberries (inset, above). Give the lad a straight red card.
