Last second goal form Burgess plunges Cork C of I into trouble
Ryan Burgess’s last second goal saw Cork C of I plunge deeper into trouble in the men’s EY Hockey League, falling 3-2 to Annadale to end the calendar year without a win in the competition.
David Lynch and John Jermyn strikes from set pieces edged the Garryduff hosts into a 2-1 lead until late in the game.
Burgess, though, has been a stunning signing for Dale from Bangor. His proficiency from penalty corners has given them a fulcrum to their attack. He equalised in the first half for 1-1 and then again with six minutes to go at 2-2.
C of I gave him one final chance on the buzzer, too, which he whipped in down the glove side for the victory. It lifts them six points clear of relegation issues while C of I are in ninth. In 2018, they have drawn eight times in 14 games.
