Daylight Ribery in ¤1,000 golden steak

The Irish Times - Monday - Sport - - Soccer - Mary Hannigan

True, we’re only a week in to January, but if you saw Franck Ribery emoting last week you’d surely agree that we already have our Outburst of the Year? Lest you missed it, the gist was that the Bayern Munich man posted a video of himself welcoming in 2019 in a Dubai restaurant owned by Nusret Gokce, the rather famous Turkish chef better known as Salt Bae. What did Ribery have to eat? Spag Bol? Did he ‘eck – he had a gold-covered steak. And which one of us hasn’t?

The issue with this particular steak is that it costs over ¤1,000, (‘Daylight Ribery!’, as the Sun so expertly commented), all of which resulted in the player getting quite a bit of criticism for being a touch on the flashy side. His response? Make sure you’re sitting down. “For 2019, let’s dot the i’s and cross the t’s . . . beginning with the envious, the angry, those only born because of a broken condom: **** your mothers, your grandmothers and even your family tree. I owe you nothing, my success is thanks to God, to me and my loved ones who believed in me. For others, you were only pebbles in my socks!” And with that, Ribery’s steak became even more costly – Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic confirmed he had been heavily fined. Enough to give the fella indigestion.
