A 24/7 helpline for women to receive counselling and clinical advice for abortion services will go live on January 1st and will be called ‘My Options’.

The decision on the name followed consultation with focus groups.

It was the preferred name to describe the service by the vast majority across all age groups, female and male, and those who have experienced an unplanned pregnancy.

There are also plans to place leaflets in pharmacies around the country, which could be distributed by the Irish Pharmacy Union.

In mid-January, the Government is also planning an advertising campaign. This is likely to include information posters on bus shelters, in buses, inside female toilets in pubs and clubs, shopping centres and colleges.
