Abbeyfeale schoolboy named Limerick Person of the Month

-

AN Abbeyfeale schoolboy who helped raise an incredible €50,000 for two children’s hospitals, while himself battling a benign brain tumour, has been named Limerick Person of the Month for December 2011.

Nine year old, Adam O’sullivan is now in the running for the Limerick Person of the Year Award, which will be announced at a gala ceremony in the city next month. Previous winners include Limerick businessman JP Mcmanus and Munster legend Paul O’connell.

The talented singer and musician was nominated by competition organisers after he raised the fantastic sum through sales of a collaborative CD with his buddies The High Kings, and a gala concert held in Templeglantine last year featuring Sharon Corr and Four men and A Dog.

The bubbly schoolboy — who has already led Munster onto Thomond Park against Australia and received a standing ovation on the Late Late Show — received his monthly award last week.

Adam’s prod dad, Denis, told The Kerryman that it was an honour to have his son recognised not only for his singing talent, but for his dedication to both Crumlin and Temple Street children’s hospitals, or whom the fundraising was done.

Last month, the O’sullivan family presented both hospitals with cheques for €24,648 — and it was this incredible amount of money raised that earned the youngster the monthly award.

Brave Adam has been diagnosed with a benign brain tumour and has received treatment in both hospitals. His road to fame came about during his time at Temple Street, when staff recorded his version of ‘Cavan Girl’ by the High Kings, which is Adam’s favourite song. After that, his parents Joanne and Denis decided that they would try and get The High Kings to record with Adam for a single in aid of the hospitals, and the rest — as they say — is history.

Such is the height of the young West Limerick boy’s fame that a friend of his dad’s has spread the word in Barcelona — with none other that soccer star Lionel Messi taking notice and pledging to reward him for his efforts by sending him a signed Barcelona shirt.
