5,000 FOR IRISH LANGUAGE SHORT FILM PROPOSAL

THE Dingle International Film Festival announced details of ‘Físín’ this week, a call to filmmakers to submit a short film proposal in the Irish language.

Five filmmakers will be selected to travel to the next Dingle Film Festival in March where they will be treated as festival guests and given the opportunity to pitch their proposal to a panel during the festival. The panel includes, script-writer Louise Ní Fhiannachta from Ventry, writer Marina Ní Dhubháin and director Cathal Watters (Muide Éire).

The competition, which is the brainchild of festival sponsor Tor Cotton, aims to encourage writing of film scripts in Irish. The festival is keen to see proposals from all local dialects and the competition is open to any individual or group from Transitional students right through to professionals.

The winner of the competition will receive a cash prize of €5,000 and €1,000 worth of lighting equipment hire, sponsored by Cian de Buitléar’s company Teach Solais.

Last year’s winner was Cathal Ó Cuaig who finished filming his winning script (An Cluiche) at the end of 2011.

The application is available to download at www.dinglefilmfestival.com <http://www.dinglefilmfestival.com> or you can email fisin@dinglefilmfestival.com. The closing date for entries is February 17 next.
