Ballagh contribution gives edge to Rotary fundraiser
CUMANN Rotary an Daingin are currently preparing to host one of the year’s most eagerly anticipated events as Postcards on the Edge returns to Dingle on February 25.
This innovative venture saw the Rotary Club of Dingle invite artists, musicians, writers, poets, actors, politicians, photographers, sports stars and well-known personalities nationwide to create an original artwork in postcard size.
This week Dingle’s Rotarians revealed that one of the postcards submitted for the event is the work of Robert Ballagh, one of Ireland’s most internationally renowned artists.
“The postcard Mr Ballagh has kindly submitted is taken from his piece ‘Liberty at the Barricades after Delacroix’ which was used by An Post as the Patrick Pearse commemorative stamp in 1979,” said Ray Farrell, President of Cumann Rotary an Daingin.
“In addition a number of wellknown local artists have answered the call with postcards already submitted by Liam O’neill, Maria Simmonds-gooding and Bob Ó Cathail to mention just a few. We are delighted with the response so far,” Mr. Farrell said.
The postcards, which will be unveiled at an exhibition on February 25 in the Skellig Hotel, will be auctioned to raise money for Polio Plus – whose goal it is to eradicate polio – Fr. Singh’s Children’s Orphanage in India and other local charities supported by the Dingle Rotary Club.
Postcards on the Edge takes place in the Dingle Skellig Hotel on Saturday February 25. A preview takes place from 6-7pm on the night.
