Wigs on the Green and drama in The Mall
SPIKE Players in Knocknagoshel will stage a hilarious, three-act comedy, Wigs on the Green in the Community Centre Knocknagoshel on January 27, 28 and 29 and February 4 and 5 at 8pm nightly.
Admission is €10 and children €5 at the door. “Spike Players was founded in 2009 after it was decided to start drama classes for the winter months. These classes were supported by the Kerry Education Service and our tutor was Padraig Dennehy from Lixnaw,” said spokesperson, Mairead Brosnan.
“The late Noelie Roche was one of our founding members and he died tragically some short time later. He was known affectionately in his native Abbeyfeale as Spike so it was decided then to call our group Spike Players in his honour and memory.
“That first year we staged a variety show and last year we did our first three-act with ‘Troubled Bachelors.’
Our group now consists of actors, actresses and backstage crew and we have a total of 16 members and growing. Padraig Dennehy from Lixnaw is still directing and our own Sheila Nix is assistant director. We have two new members this year, Sheila Nix and Fred Browne.
We have, in conjunction with the Knocknagoshel Community Centre Committee this year purchased stage lighting and this is a great investment for the parish indeed. As we make more money we hope to invest further in lighting and other requisites to enhance future productions - hopefully. Chris Collins, living in the parish now for the past number of years, has spent a lot of time and energy working on the lighting system and is now in charge of stage lighting for this and future productions,” said Ms. Brosnan.
