EXPANSION OF SERVICES IN KILLARNEY - The school is delighted to announce the expansion of services in Killarney to include Clarinet and Saxophone. They will be taught by ex Garda Band member and recent retiree David Rath who joined the teaching staff of the school in September. David will work closely with wind teachers Emma Jane Shanahan and Aisling O' Dwyer to develop the wind department of the Killarney School. LISTOWEL VENUE CHANGE - From this week forward, all music, speech and drama and ballet and modern dance classes in Listowel take place at Scoil Realt na Maidine, Upper Church St. The school is grateful to Gaelscoil Lios Tuathail for providing facilities during the past year. We look forward to a period of relative stability and growth with the move back to Scoil Realt na Maidine. The Kerry School of Music has provided classes in Listowel for over twenty years and has produced many outstandin­g students. KSM PARENT SUPPORT GROUP - A Parent Support Group is currently being set up by the school to support the teachers and administra­tion in pursuing the School's objectives. The first meeting of the interim Parent Support Group takes place in the school's High St premises this Wednesday night, January 18th at 8pm. The support group will have representa­tives from all centres and will act as local liaisons, ensuring the widest disseminat­ion of informatio­n about the school and its work and assist in the running of the network of centres throughout the county as well as supporting vital fundraisin­g work. CONGRATULA­TIONS - Congratula­tions to current and former students Deirdre and Caoimhe Glavin, Micheal Cullinane and Emer Jones on securing places in the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland.for the first time ever, Kerry can boast five young musicians in the National Youth Orchestra - a great sign for the future. Many congratula­tions also to Aine Murray and Honour Hurley on the birth of Suina shortly before Christmas. SYMPATHIES - The School wishes to convey its deepest sympathy to the family of Billy Curtin, one of Tralee’s most outstandin­g and illustriou­s musicians, on the occasion of his untimely passing. Billy as a past student of Berkely College, fully appreciate­d the value of balance between performanc­e and academics in the training of musicians. He also played in a number of School musical theatre production­s and held the School in high regard. TRAD GROUP - A reminder that the Kerry School of Music Traditiona­l Group rehearse every Saturday at 4.30pm the KSM High Street, Tralee. Membership is open to all, not just KSM students and all are welcome. FORTHCOMIN­G EVENTS - The main item on the agenda over the next couple of months is the special gala 30th Anniversar­y Celebratio­n in the National Concert Hall, Dublin on April 3rd.more about this wonderful event in the coming weeks. After a wonderful run of the great musical West Side Story, the Light Opera Society of Tralee (LOST) takes on FOOTLOOSE - THE MUSICAL running at Siamsa Tire, Tralee, from March 7th to 10th. Auditions took place last Saturday and many but not all parts were filled. Anyone interested should contact the school office on 0667125690.
