Knocknagoshel

-

The heart was put crossways on Knocknagoshel pensioners in recent times when 150,000 letters were issued by the revenue commissioners . After a most enjoyable festive season this news that they would have to hand back part of their dough left many speechless before news broke that these love letters were only for a tiny minority. All householders are now preparing to stumpup with their hundred euroes a household this is vital if the lorry is to be kept on the road. Ploughing Match - All roads lead to Abbeydorney on Sunday next for the annual Ploughing Match . This event in Abbeydorney is a mini All Ireland where along with the cream of ploughmen and ploughwomen can be seen in action but there also will be a litany of other side shows on view. Tom Mahoney and his fellow committee members are leaving no stone unturned in ensuring another memorable dayout in O’dorney. Hopefully now the weather will be kind . Dublin Star Of The Future - It was at a funeral in Knockane recently I metup with Michael Mc Carty. In the previous week Michael had received an All Ireland medal being a sub on the Dublin team that won last year’s All Ireland final. Michael has strong local connections as his mother happens to be Geraldine Walsh daughter of the late Eddie Walsh . Michael’s father is none other than Pat Mc Carthy a native of Coolenalig , Duagh . Michael is a fine strapping lad a most promising footballer in a Dublin panel quite capable of winning three in a row titles . It could well be possible Michael would face a Kerry team in 2012 that includes a first cousin of his from Knocknagoshel.
