The special First Holy Communion preparation mass for the month of January took place on Saturday evening last. The next one will be on Saturday, February 18. The anniversary mass for Larry Curtin and Margaret O’keefe (nee Curtin), Berna, Templeglantine West will take place on Saturday next, 11.00am, for Aeneas and Mary Sheehan, Church Road on Saturday evening, 6.00pm, for Michael and Josie Dore, Meenoline South on Sunday, 10.30am. OÍCHE CHEOIL: The local Comhaltas craobh is holding a special Oíche Cheoil at the Devon Inn lounge on Saturday next January 21st starting at 8.00pm which will be attended by a group of college students from California, USA. The session will include music song and dance with a céad míle fáilte for everybody on the night. The session will have an early finish so all are encouraged to come along early. WEDDING FAYRE: For anybody thinking of taking the marriage plunge in the next few years, the Devon Inn Hotel is the place to be on Sunday next, January 22 where a Wedding Fayre takes place from 2.00 to 6.00pm. CHARITY WALK: The annual sponsored walk in aid of Rathfreedagh Cheshire Home will take place on Sunday, January 29. There is a change this year in the starting location, in former years it was at the Devon Inn Hotel but this year walkers will begin their journey from Barnagh and will travel along the Great Southern Trail to Caisleán Nua Thiar. They will be joined at the Courtenay Lodge by those opting for the shorter walk to the Cheshire Home. All participants are strongly advised to wear high visibility clothing for safety. COMHBHRÓN: Sympathy is extended to Rosemary Bennis of the Stationhouse, Devon Road on the death of her father, Donie Bennis, Castletown Conyers on January 4.
