Tralee Dynamos U-19s are talk of the Town after 3-1 win

LEAGUE OF IRELAND Athlone Town 1 Tralee Dynamos 3 AFTER a long break Tralee Dynamos got back to their Dr Tony O’neill under 19 league programme in the midlands on Sunday and done so in style with a great win over Athlone Town.

Darren O’brien opened the scoring for Dynamos after six minutes which was a lead that Dynamos kept to the break despite a lot of pressure applied by the home side.

Athlone enjoyed a high percentage of possession around the middle of the park in the second half without creating many goal scoring chances.

In a tactical move Dynamos moved Adam Piggot back to the middle of midfield in a 4-5-1 formation which curbed the amount of ball the home side was getting in this area.

Against the run of play Dynamos hit on the counter attack with Scott Monaghan winning possession inside his own half setting Adam Piggott on his way down the left wing. After brushing past a few players he centered to the following up Monaghan and at full stretch he toe poked the ball to the bottom left hand corner of the net.

As Athlone pushed forward to try and get a goal back they were again caught on the hop with Darren O’brien dispatching a defence splitting pass to Adam Piggott in full flight who left the centre half stranded and with the goalie advancing he held his composure well and steered the ball out of his reach.

Athlone got a late consolation goal in a goalmouth scramble.

Dynamos manager Noel White said he was very pleased with the team’s performance and he was delighted to have Adam Piggott back playing again after a long spell out with injury.
