- by Pat Ryan at CIT Grounds, Bishopstown

CORK IT..........................2-16 IT TRALEE...................... 2-5

CORK Institute of Technology was a very comfortable winner over Institute of Technology Tralee on Sunday last in the Mcgrath Cup quarterfinal at CIT Grounds Bishopstown. From the start the winners looked impressive with Donal Og Hodnett and Hugh Curran very impressive in the full forward line.

Over the hour the pair accounted for 1-11 between them. Hodnett opened the scoring with a pointed free with Alan O'donoghue levelling. Hugh Curran gave CIT the lead again. IT Tralee edged in front when O'donoghue placed Gary O'driscoll for a well taken goal. CIT recovered well using the short passing to great effect. The sides were level 0-4 to 1-1 before Hodnett with another free gave the home side another slight advantage. Good work by Barry O'grady led to a Brendan Poff point 0-5 to 1-2. They were also deadlocked 1-3 to 0-6. From here on CIT did very well Hugh Curran pointed after good work by Brian O'regan and Donal Og Hodnett. Curran added another before Brian Maguire soiled through for an excellent point. IT Tralee replied with a point by Damian Kelly to be within two points at the break 0-9 to 1-4.

The second half was controlled by CIT Donal Og Hodnett had an early point and a good movement involving Peter Daly and Stephen O'donoghue led to a well taken point by Kevin Hallissey. CIT followed with a goal by Donal Og Hodnett after being put through by Kevin Hallissey to opened up a seven point lead 1-11 to 1-4. The momentum was certainly with CIT and they added a further goal and five points the goal by Jerry O'connor while IT Tralee faded out of the contest having just a goal and a point by Barry O'hare.
