Ben has never quite fitted the Mitchell mould, but Phil may be about to wish he’d made more of an effort to make his son feel included.

The troubled teen is certainly feeling like an outsider when his dad offers Jay a ticket to a boxing match and not him, and DC Marsden is quick to pick up on his alienation. She sympathises over how hard it must be to live up to the Mitchell image, and tells him that if he remembers anything else about Stella’s demise, he can give her a call.

It looks like her efforts have failed when the father-and-son share a rare bonding moment over the banger car, but when Ben then stalls it, and Phil suggests Jay drive instead, all of the lad’s anger comes flooding back and he reaches for the copper’s card. Is Ben really about to turn his dad into the cops?

Elsewhere, Bianca is stunned to spot Ray on the Square, and initially tells him he can’t see Morgan, but relents after a heart-to-heart with Whitney.

Tanya pushes Jane to take upchefwilliams’ offer of a job interview, then wishes not when it turns out the position is in Cardiff. Jane also has second thoughts about the move after Ian tests her to see if she can stand the heat in a professional kitchen, but when she confides her worries in Tanya, her mate gets the wrong idea and assumes she isn’t going.

Max tells Lauren she can leave school on condition she starts work at the salon, Abi finds a love letter, and Tamwar is left reeling when Masood tells him how badly Yusef treated Zainab.
