Cyrene hopes her doodle gets on Google
GOOGLE’S home page has never looked as colourful — a rainbow bursts through the letters as swans, rabbits, birds and roses nestle within the G, O,O,G,L and E.
It’s the wonderful entry in this year’s Doodle for Google competition by local girl Cyrene Lawlee and a heartfelt plea from a young person for the sake of our environment.
A second- year student at Presentation Secondary, Cyrene’s amazing art captivated judges so much that she was selected as one of only 15 in the first, second and thirdyear category of the competition. Now, however, Cyrene is relying on the public vote to see if she will win her category outright and find her doodle being used for a day on the Doodle for Google homepage.
On the theme of ‘I wish’, Cyrene decided to get back to nature in the interests of promoting better environmental practice. It inspired her to create a little masterwork. “I wish the beauty, sounds and sights of nature that surround us will always be there for us and for future generations. That is why I have portrayed nature in my drawing,” Cyrene set out under her piece.
Her proud grandfather Pat Foley of the Square said he was delighted for her: “It’s a wonderful piece altogether and she’s a fantastic artist. She has it from both sides of the family as my grandaunt, who was a nun in San Diego, was a gifted artist and my wife Nora, Cyrene’s grandmother, is a brilliant artist also and actually came first in Ireland in an art competition when she was in secondary school.”
