AWAY WITH THE FAIRIES IN ATHEA

NEW ‘FAIRY TRAIL’ A FANTASTIC ADDITION

-

THE POPULAR term ‘ away with the fairies’ took on a whole new meaning in Athea this week with the opening of the village’s new Fairy Trail located behind the Memorial Hall and Giants Garden.

The brainchild of the local tidy towns group, Athea’s latest tourist attraction was officially opened on Monday and has already attracted huge interest from locals and visitors alike

Along the live 10 fairies - Lu, Rookie, Fiachra, Nóinín, Ciaróg, Sun, Shine, Paige, Lucey and Croí - who will each have their own fairy door and a purpose which will be displayed on a plaque beside their door.

The location where each fairy lives will be identified by lifting toadstools along the route.

The unique attraction will also house its own ‘ worry tree’ called Croga, which was included to take away any worries you may have by placing your hand on the plaque attached to the tree. At the end of the trail there is also a Fairy Post Box where you can post messages to the fairies.

“This will be a fantastic addition to our village and will be open to the public all year round for free,” a spokesperson for the tidy towns group said. “Everyone is welcome to come along and explore Athea's newest attraction.”

Monday’s launch also featured the raising of seven new flags at the Giants Garden – representing Ireland, Munster, Limerick, Athea GAA, Athea United, Athea Basketball and Athea Tidy Towns. Their inclusion in the park was made possible thanks to sponsorship from the Quaid Brothers, Templeathea, Kathleen Casey, Chicago, and Athea UTD.
