The Kerryman (North Kerry)

Identity of €500k lottery winner still a mystery

-

THE CAHERSIVEEN shop at the centre of €500,000 lottery mystery is yet to discover their biggest ever winner but are hopeful that it may have been one of their regular customers.

A ticket sold at Walsh's SuperValu in Cahersiveen scooped the top prize in last Tuesday's EuroMillion Plus draw, and while the winner picked up the cheque earlier this week his identity remains a closely guarded secret.

A spokesperson for the Cahersiveen store said that had no idea who the lucky winner was as yet: “There is a lot of curiosity here about who it might be but we're hopeful that is it someone local.

“Despite our best efforts we have no idea who it could be yet”.

The shop has been inundated with visitors since the news broke last week, with many chancing their luck with a lottery ticket of their own in the hope that that the big win might rub off.

Despite the ongoing mystery the lucky winner, identified only as a “very lucky Kerry man” has however spoken anonymously about the win, describing it as a “dream come true”.

This is how he described the winning moment: “My wife was calling out the numbers on Tuesday evening and I was checking the ticket. With each number she called, my heart raced that bit faster. The last number she called was 41. I've that too,' I said. ' You can't have,' she said. She didn't believe me. She was sure I was messing. She checked the ticket herself and sure enough I'd all five numbers. There were a few screams after that.”

SuperValu in Cahersiveen previously sold a €300,000 winning ticket in the regular Lotto Draw, and is quickly earning a reputation as one of south Kerry's luckiest lottery shops.
