Publican Peter was respected by all the community
THE DEATH of popular Camp publican, Peter Daly of Daly’s Bar at Camp Cross occurred on Friday last.
Peter and Kathleen and their two young daughters Michelle and Nicola came home from London to take over Barry’s Bar in 1976. Originally from Belfast, Peter fitted in perfectly in Camp. Along with being the life and soul of his own bar, he was also very much loved and respected by everybody in the wider Camp community. Touristswho came to holiday in Camp year after year loved him too and for many of them their holiday was not complete without calling in to see Peter and Kathleen.
He will be sadly missed by all in the community. Camp Community Council formed a guard of honour on Monday morning at St. Mary’s Church, Camp and after the Requiem Mass, which was concelebrated by Fr. John Buckley PP assisted by Fr. Gerard O Leary, a guard of honour accompanied the cortege on Peter’s last journey to his final resting place in Ballinknockane Cemetery.
And at the graveside it was only fitting that Peter would be heralded to his heavenly home by the eloquent strains of music and song. Milo O’Brien on accordion and Peter’s fond friends from Cork, who entertained him so many times in the bar, played movingly as he was laid to rest.
Peter is survived by his wife Kathleen, daughters, Michelle and Nicola, grandchildren, brother, sons-in-law Brendan and Martin, extended family and many friends to whom sympathy is extended.
May the sod rest lightly on his gentle soul.
