Make the most of those rainy days with rainwater harvesting at the ‘rec’

-

The renewable energy centre at Park Road, Killarney has become a renowned specialist in renewable energy heating systems in Ireland.

Established since 1997, ‘ rec’ provides turnkey solutions for projects by providing the planning, design, installation and commissioning of various cost saving heating systems. Products provided & installed include: heat-pumps, solar panels, wood boilers/stoves, ventilation systems and now, new to the centre, rainwater harvesting systems.

Rainwater harvesting is a technology used for collecting and storing rainwater for home use. With the onslaught of the new water charges in Ireland, rainwater harvesting could save an average household up to €500 a year, every year.

Not all water used in a house has to be purified to the extent that it can be used for drinking and so rainwater harvesting systems can provide water - free of charge - for the washing machine, toilet and all outdoor activities among many others. The natural softness of rainwater will not attribute to lime scale deposits, which facilitates a perfect fit with kitchen appliances.

All rainwater harvesting systems consist of three components: a catchment area, a run off delivery system & a storage tank. Rainwater from the roof is captured in the conventional way and channelled via a filter to a storage tank which is usually underground, but may also be above ground. The water is then pumped from the tank to the home.

For more information call the ‘rec’ in Killarney and Stephen will work to create a suitable rainwater harvesting system for individual needs. From planning to installing, to service and maintenance, the ‘ rec’ will advise on how to save money by choosing the renewable way.
