BRAWL IN THE HALL!

THEY MIGHT be used to squaring up to opponents on the football and hurling pitches across north Kerry, but members of the Crotta O’Neill’s and St Senan’s GAA clubs swapped their boots for boxing gloves on Saturday night as they faced off in a fundraising white collar boxing event.
More than 400 supporters gathered at St Senan’s clubhouse in Mountcoal for the ‘Brawl in the Hall’, which was deemed a massive success by event coordinator, Crotta’s Brendan Culhane.
Members of each club faced off against one another in nine bouts after six weeks of intensive training under the watchful eyes of John and Pat Falvey of Cashen Vale Boxing Club.
In the end, the Senan’s fighters bested those from Crotta in the ring - but only just - winning five fights to four.
The fights were MC’d by Crotta's stalwart Sonny Egan, who entertained the crowd with an impromptu dance number at the interval.
The two day fundraiser continued the following day with a novel GAA match between Crotta and St Senan's seniors - a mix of hurling and football - with Crotta evening the score from the previous night by winning the match. Also included in the fundraising events were a DJ and face-painting and games for the many children who attended.
Speaking after the hugely successful fundraiser, Mr Culhane thanked Cashen Vale Boxing Club for their assistance with training along with everyone who turned out to support the event, adding that the night's success would bode well for future fundraising events.
