McCabe and Diggins claim Poc Fada titles on Kerryhead

THE Poc Fada that was held last Monday on Kerryhead mountain and with the weather very favourable there was a large turn out with all clubs were represente­d. The standard was very high with four players going to a play off for 2nd place in the senior category and two players in the U16 play off to declare a winner. The senior winners in both the hurling and camogie will go on to represent the county in the Munster final to be held on the Galtee Mountains in July. Hurling Officer Ger McCarthy thanked everybody who helped out on the day especially all the card markers and Mike Leen of the KL Lounge Ballyheigu­e for his hospitalit­y during the presentati­ons that followed.

Hurlers in Christy Ring

Final

All roads lead to Croke Park this weekend for all Kerry hurling followers. The Kerry senior hurlers will play the final of the 2014 Christy Ring Cup against Kildare on this Saturday at 4pm. Best of luck to captain, John Egan, and his team.

Causeway continue to lead Division 2 of the Credit Union County Senior Hurling League with full points. Round 6 results: Causeway 8-19 Kenmare 3-12; Kilgarvan 2-12 Lady's Walk 1-15; Lixnaw 3-16 Abbeydorne­y 0-16; Kilmoyley 0-16 St. Brendan's 0-8.

Round 7 fixtures, Wednesday, June 4: Lady's Walk v Ballyheigu­e; Kilmoyley v Kenmare; Lixnaw v St. Brendan's; Causeway v Kilgarvan; Dr. Crokes v Abbeydorne­y. All games at 7.30pm.

Division 3 commences on Wednesday week, June 11. Fixtures will be sent out to Club Secretarie­s this week.

Hurling Cúl Camps

Kerry Hurling and Camogie camps are [Monday's to Friday's]: Causeway and Lixnaw (30 June - 4 July), Ballyheigu­e (7 - 11 July), Ardfert and Kenmare (14 -18 July), Abbeydorne­y (21 - 25 July), Crotta & Fitzgerald Stadium (28 July - 1 August), Kilmoyley (4 - 8 August) and Ballyduff and Tralee Parnell's (11 - 15 August). Open to primary school children between 6 and 13 years of age, 10am. - 2.30p.m. each day. Cost is €55 per child with reductions for additional members of families. All participan­ts will receive a specially designed Jersey, Socks and shorts along with a Cúl Camp kit bag.

Club news

Tralee Parnells remind all interested that under age coaching from under 6 to 16 continues at the Caherslee G.A.A. grounds every Friday from 7-8pm. In an initiative to promote hurling in the Tralee Primary Schools, Tralee Parnell's coach Joe Brennan will commence coaching sessions each Friday during June at Caherleahe­en N.S. and Scoil Mhic Easmainn for 5th and 6th class children.

Kilmoyley Hurling Club held a very successful Poc Fada competitio­n on Sunday last with 14 teams taking part. The first winners of the Patie O'Hara Memorial trophy are (teams of 3) - Nicky Cooke, Paudie O'Connor and Sean Curran. Runners up were Maurice Murnane, Joe Murnane and Darren Godley.

In the Under 14 section, the winners were David Godley, Conor Corrigan and Liam Flaherty.

The Boys Under 10 winning team comprised of Tomás Godley, Conor Nolan and Robert Monahan while the Girls completion was won by Amy Corridon, Maeve Godley and Kellie Meehan. In the camogie competitio­n Jessica Fitzell, Kristen Curran, Sarah Walsh and Sarah McCarthy took the honours.
