The Kerryman (North Kerry)

Donegal fan barking up wrong tree

-

THE Donegal man at the centre of the spy-gate incident in Fitzgerald Stadium is keeping a low profile this week, even lower than even the Donegal team.

The Kerryman tried in vain to speak to the man who lives in the Killarney area and is accused of climbing a tree overlooking Fitzgerald Stadium to catch a bird’s eye view of the closed door training below. It was Tuesday evening and the Kerry team had been fine tuning their game-plan ahead of Sunday’s decider.

The evening incident went viral on social media this week but Kerry County Board Chairman Patrick O’Sullivan said the offender “wouldn’t have seen a whole lot” as players had only been warming up at the time.

The watcher was spotted by members of the Kerry team just as training was about to begin as they heard branches rustling on the grounds of St Finan’s Hospital.

He is claimed to be a friend of Donegal manager Jim McGuinness but Donegal fans have dismissed claims that one of their own was spying on the Kerry camp, with some stating that he had been “picking apples” at the time.
