It’s all systems go lights, camera, action for The Sliabh Luachra Drama Group as they commence another drama festival in The Heritage Centre in Scartaglin starting off on this Friday night February 5th and continuing on Saturday and Sunday night February 6th and 7th. On the following week they are in action on Thursday, Friday and Sunday night February 11th 12th and 14th.The groups production this year is ‘The Far Off Hills’ by Lennox Robinson and once again it promises to be a highly successful presentati­on and the local actors know how to do their stuff being highly talented, experience­d and highly skilled in producing dramatic works of this nature. Performanc­es are at 8.00pm each night and bookings should be made on (087) 2434000. We wish The Sliabh Luachra Drama Group every success and good luck with ‘The Far Off Hills’. Do come out and support them they deserve your support, remember last years ‘Professor Tim’ and ‘A Wake in the West’ in 2014. So book now and don’t be disappoint­ed.

RAMBLING HOUSE

The monthly rambling house session in Scartaglin Heritage Centre will take place on Monday night next February 8th commencing at 8.30pm. Admission as always is free with a raffle and refreshmen­ts on the night. Everyone Welcome Handed Down: Great Sliabh Luachra Box player Jimmy Doyle will be the subject of the next Handed Down Programme in Scartaglin Heritage Centre on Saturday night February 13th. Bryan O’ Leary TG4 Young Musician Of The Year will present the programme other entertaine­rs on the night will be Con Moynihan, Denis O’ Connor, Joe O’Sullivan, Kieran O’ Sullivan and Connie O’ Connell. Singers Michelle and Aoife O’ Sullivan. It should be another great night in Scart.

ROSE HELPS HOSPICE

Kerry Rose Juliette Culloty whose mother comes originally from Knockrour, recently presented a cheque for €1,145 to Pat Doolan, Chairman of the Killarney branch of Kerry Hospice, being the proceeds from the sale of a cd entitled ‘The Rose From Lyretough’. The song was written by Juilettes next door neighbour Ted Leizcynesk­i who is a frequent visitor to the Rambling House in Scartaglin. Musician and singer Mike Fitzgerald sings the song which he recorded on the cd.

CHURCH DUTIES

Those requested for duties in our local Church for the month of February are as follow; Ministers of Eucharist Team A, Donie McCarthy, Joan Thompson, Sheila McEnery and Nellie Healy.

Collection Checkers, Bridget Reidy, Catherine O’Connell and Tadhg O’Connor Social Afternoon Castleisla­nd District Social Club are holding a social afternoon in Castleisla­nd Day Care Centre on Sunday February 7th. Entertainm­ent will be from 2pm to 5pm and all are welcome.

PARENTS COUNCIL QUIZ

Scartaglin National School Parents Council Committee organised a very successful and enjoyable fund raising pub quiz in Flemings Bar on Saturday 23rd January. Seventeen tables participat­ed and all present had a most enjoyable night. The Parents Council wish to thank all who generously and kindly sponsored prizes, spot prizes etc for the event, Quiz Master Paul O’Sullivan, Mary and her staff from Flemings Bar for their help, co-operation and facilities and anyone who helped in any way with this particular fundraiser.
