Does Enda live in an island of his dreams?

-

SIR, So once more we have Enda the Magnificent prancing about with the rest of the European Leaders boasting about how his Government have saved the day for the people of Ireland.

A lot of us here back at home are wondering if we are in the same Ireland as he is.

The homeless and those about to join this queue are wondering also.

The travellers who have been evicted on to the side of the road are wondering also.

The huge numbers of those on trolleys in hospital wards are wondering also.

Those whose operations have been put off time after time are wondering also.

Those who are still waiting to see a consultant are wondering also.

Never mind, we must think of others and their sufferings. We are ready to accept 4,000, or 8,000, or 10,000 refugees. We will welcome them with open arms but where will we put them when we cannot find places for our own homeless? Where will they live and have the basic necessities such as water, waste disposal, electricity and social services? Where will they be housed, fed and be able to receive the necessary skills for social integration into our society? Have these people been vetted or are we at risk of letting in gatherers for ISIS?

Enda of course does not care anymore; the government does not care anymore. The reason being that none of them can guarantee that they will be still in government after the election and a lot of them will be questioned during their canvassing about whether they still think water does not fall from the sky.

The voters will think long and hard this time out. Nothing can be taken for granted. Sincerely, Michael O’Meara, Faha, Killarney.
