Best foot forward for CF charity
OVER 100 men, women and children gathered in Listowel on Sunday afternoon to show their support for a fundraising walk/run in aid of cystic fibrosis charity, TLC4CF.
To date the charity has raised over €6m to construct a new dedicated CF in- and outpatient unit at University Hospital Limerick which caters for dozens of Kerry’s CF sufferers.
While the new facility has opened on a phased basis, the charity is still raising funds for equipment - and that’s where Lisselton woman Charlene Tydings came in!
She and her family and friends organised Sunday’s walk for the charity which is in fact quite dear to her heart. Her partner’s nephew Evan Foley (6) has cystic fibrosis and will avail of the new Limerick unit.
Commenting on the success of Sunday’s walk, Charlene paid a special tribute to her special guest on the day - Deputy Michael Healy-Rae - who made the trip to Listowel to officially start proceedings and cut the ribbon at the start line.
Like all charity events of this nature, Charlene said it simply would not have been possible without the help and support she received from friends, family and volunteers - all of whom ensured an incident-free, fun occasion.
“Everyone really enjoyed their day and everything ran smoothly,” she said.
“There was about 105 people taking part altogether, including kids , and the total raised was €1,343. We also held a bucket collection in Supervalu in Listowel last Saturday, which raise another €919.13 so we’d also like to thank everyone who donated to that.”
As well as paying tribute to all who took part, Charlene also thanked those who gave donations and the businesses in Asdee, Ballybunion and Listowel, who sponsored water.
She also thanked her family for making and donating the refreshments; the stewards, first aiders, Civil Defence, Kerry Crusaders, staff at Listowel Community Centre and local gardaí who were a huge help.
