CROTTA AWARDS AND MEDAL PRESENTATI­ONS NIGHT A large crowd of young Crotta Hurlers together with their parents, family and friends attend The Crotta Hurling Club Awards and Medal Presentati­on night in St Columbus Centre, Kilflynn on Saturday 16th April to see our young players receive their Medals for the 2015 season. With MC Paul O’Donoghue on duty everything ran smoothly. Crotta Coiste na nOg Chairman Sonny Egan thanked all Players for their dedication to improving their skills during the year. He thanked Parents, Grandparen­ts, Coaches, Mentors and all who helped out in anyway during the year on and off the playing field. Sonny also thanked the Officers present from the Club and County. He thanked Richie Power for making the trip to Kilflynn with The Liam McCarthy Cup and said it was great for the young players to have such a great Hurler to present their medals to them. On hand to present the medals on a memorable night was former Kilkenny Hurling legend Richie Power. The Eight time All-Ireland Senior winner and two time All Star, was a wonderful guest,Richie told the large attendance that it was a honour to present the medals to the Crotta players. He offered the players some great advice and posed for endless photograph­s with all the players, committee, supporters and guests. The first medals to be presented were the U-10 players, winners of the North Kerry Hurling Board blitz. Dermot Ryan , manager when calling out the individual players spoke some fine words about each one. The next up was The u-12 Hurlers who received their County League Div 2 and North Kerry Hurling Board Blitz Medals. This team also played in Croke Park last June, and were victories in their three matches in the munster blitz that they participat­ed in. Next up were The u-13s who captured the North Kerry Championsh­ip b title. Manager J.P Hickey spoke about the U-12 and U-13 teams and called out each player individual­ly to receive their medals. It was a busy night with many players on 2 or more teams. Last up were the U-16 Panel who won the double, The County League Division 1 and The North Kerry Championsh­ip A titles, and losing in the treble after a extra time to South Kerry in the County Championsh­ip Final replay. The players were introduced by their manager Padraig Cronin. There was special praise for club players who won achievemen­ts outside of the club, James Sheehan wining a Kennedy Cup medal with the Kerry U-14 Soccer team. Daniel O’Rourke was a member of Austin Stack’s football team who won All-Ireland u-14 Feile title, Barry Mahony captured the Munster Poc fada u-16 title , Aaron McElligott who won The All-Ireland boxing title also Donnacha Sayers who won a Munster Boy Boxing title recently and Sean McGrath who captained St. Brendan’s Park F.C U-13 to a prestigiou­s Manchester Cup Title just a few weeks ago. Also on the night, The Senior awards were handed out to young player of the year, player of the year and club person of the year. Congratula­tions to Bill Keane who won our Young Player of the Year, Richard Nolan who won Senior Player of the Year and to Johnny Hannon who won Club Person of the Year, The Former Treasurer has been a major influence in our club over the last number of years and has worked tirelessly Fundraisin­g on behalf of the Crotta Hurling Club. Richie Power presented the awards. Well done to all our winners. Crotta Chairman Paddy Weir, announced that Johnny Rohan is the Crotta Hurling Club Hall of Fame award recipient. Johnny who gave outstandin­g service to the Crotta Hurling Club as a player and later as administra­tor over a 13 year period. A tough defender at No 2 or No 5 jerseys who always made his opponent earned any ball he won. Unfortunat­ely Johnny had called a day, when Crotta won the Senior Championsh­ip in 1968. He has been a true Crotta man and this award is one that is most well deserved. Congratula­tions Johnny. Also present for the celebratio­ns were County Board Hurling office Ger McCarthy who presented The County Poc Fada Medals to Crotta Hurlers Barry Mahony and Shane Nolan. The Crotta Coiste na nÓg music Group of Darragh Breen, Conor Breen, Orla Mahony, Ciara Bowler and Rory Mahony provided the music on the night also the Club sponsor Prim’s Restaurant, Kilflynn provide some tasty food for all present. Raffle winners on the night were Kilkenny Signed Jersey Mike Parker, Signed Hurley and Sliotar by Big Dan Shanahan and Maurice Shanahan of Waterford and Signed Hurley by Richie Power was won by Shane Herbert. Many thanks to all who helped out in any way to make it such an enjoyable and successful night, we appreciate all the work they put into the night individual­ly and as a team. Most importantl­y to the players, their coaches and parents who without them there would not of been a night to celebrate. We look forward to the year ahead and what it brings. CROTTA LOTTO RESULTS The Four numbers drawn out of the drum by the Independen­t observer, Betty Falvey, Garrynagor­e, Lixnaw on Monday Night 18th April in Parker’s Pub, Kilflynn were 1, 15, 24 and 29. There was No winner of €3,600 Jackpot. The following won €35 in the lucky dip draw: Fr. Mossy Brick, Kilmoyley, Grace Mc Kenna, Killahan, Abbeydorne­y and Laura Couchman, Ballyconne­ll Heights, Kilflynn. The next draw will take place in Herbert’s Bar, Kilflynn, on Monday 25th April with a 3,700 Jackpot. Cost 2 Euro per player. Any girls interested in playing camogie is invited to come along to try it out. For further informatio­n Contact Secretary Margaret Carroll 086 8800526 FÉILE HURLING Crotta U-14s have qualified for the final of the County Feile b section at the sportsfiel­d, Ballyduff on Saturday 23rd April with victories over Tralee Parnells and Kilmoyley and were beat by Lixnaw. Crotta will meet Lixnaw on Monday 1st, Bank Holiday in the final.
