Foilmore the place to be for Scór final
THIS Sunday will be a special day for the National School children from around the county who have qualified for the County Finals of Scór na bPaisti, which will be held in the Community Centre, Foilmore at 2pm.
Certainly since this popular competition, which was first introduced in 2004 at National School level, later to be ran by the clubs and was the brainchild of the late Siobhan Cotter who was Secretary of Scór na nOg in the county at the time, has gone from strength to strength and if the semi-finals at both Presentation Secondary School, Castleisland and the Racecourse Hall, Killarney are anything to go by the expected huge following are sure to have a marvellous days entertainment.
There will be eight Districts Boards represented; Mid Kerry, South Kerry, East Kerry, Kenmare District, North Kerry Football, North Kerry Hurling, Castleisland District and Tralee/St. Brendans. There will be medals for both winners and runners up and certificates for everybody competing; also the Siobhain Cotter Memorial Shield, sponsored by Billy and Mary Enright, Estuary Print, Ballylongford, which was introduced in 2008 by the Coiste Scór Chairrai will be on display and presented to the overall Club at the end of the competition.
A further presentation will also be made to the Club who has participated most in Scór disciplines over the duration of competitions which takes in; Scór Sinsear, Scór na nOg and Scór Na bPaisti and will be known as the Healy/O’Connor Perpetual Cup which was sponsored by Bernard Reidy, “Trophy World”, Tralee This competition will come to a conclusion at this stage.
QUIZ
All Clubs taking part in the Quiz are reminded that this part of the programme is now seperate from the remainder of the event; this is due to a change in the format of Scór. The venue with an 11am start will be the Intermediate School Killorglin. All Clubs involved in the finals must be present well in advance of the 11am starting time.
FORMAT
It is very important to note that the format for the County Finals of Scór na bPaisti has changed with the presentation of medals for winners and runners up for the first half of the programme been presented after the break with the remaining presentations been made as per usual at the end of the event.
The following is the running order for the day; Ballad Group, Recitation, Instrumental Music, Solo Singing, Figure Dancing. A break for 10 minutes followed by the presentation to winners and runners up; Sean Nos Dancing, Leiriu and finishing up with Set Dancing. District Boards participating in the following order on the day; North Kerry Hurling, Castleisland District, East Kerry, South Kerry, Kenmare District, North Kerry Football, Tralee/St. Brendans, Mid Kerry.
