TOMMY MADDEN U13 FINAL

Moyvane 4-13 Ballyduff 0-5

THE 2017 Tommy Madden U-13 NK Championship Final between Ballyduff and Moyvane was played in Coolard last Sunday.

This was Ballyduff’s fourth year in succession reaching the final and having won the previous two finals, they were hoping to match the three-in-a-row by Ballydonoghue 2008-2010.

Moyvane, meanwhile, were making their first appearance in a Tommy Madden Final and exploded into the game from the throw-in with full forward Rian Quinn netting a goal inside the first minute to give Moyvane a perfect start.

The next five minutes were keenly contested with the play flowing up and down the pitch until Ballyduff opened their account with a point from their full forward Anthony Kavanagh.

TJ Mulvihill scored a lovely point from play and when Rian Quinn latched onto a long delivery from a free to score his and Moyvane’s second goal in the ninth minute, it was obvious that Ballyduff were up against a team on a mission. Moyvane proceeded to add another eight points to Ballyduff’s one to leave the half-time score at Moyvane 2-9 Ballyduff 0-2.

Ballyduff introduced some fresh blood for the second half and went at Moyvane’s lead with all their might, but they found it very hard to get through a resolute Moyvane defence.

Aidan Swan was a strong presence at full back throughout, with able assistance from his corner-backs Patrick O’Connor and the flame haired Conor Sweeney who cleared danger on several occasions.

Rian Quinn was re-located to centre-back after an injury to Oisin Kennelly, after 15 minutes, and along with Luke Mansfield and Tadhg O’Connor made up a formidable half back line.

After soaking up this early pressure from Ballyduff, Moyvane struck for two goals in the eight and ninth minutes of the second half ,the first from the tricky Jamie Moloney and the second from the industrious Cormac O’Connor, to effectively end the game as a contest.

Ballyduff, to their credit, didn’t give up and driven on by Kieran O’Carroll in particular they added three points to their tally one being an excellent score under pressure from the aforementioned Kieran O’Carroll.

Moyvane scored four points in the second half-Danny Lyons, captain Jack O’Keeffe, TJ Mulvihill and a beauty from 30 yards from the left leg of Jamie Moloney to leave the Final score at Moyvane 4-13 Ballyduff 0-5.

Paddy and Kitty Madden presented Moyvane captain Jack O’Keeffe with the trophy. Jason Foley presented the Moyvane MOTM trophy to the outstanding Rian Quinn and Brian Ó Seannachain presented the Ballyduff MOTM trophy to the goalkeeper Killian Boyle.

There were also presentations to the trainers of both participating teams and to referee Colman O’Flaherty.
