Premier A wins for Tralee Celtic, Mitchels Avenue, Killorglin and Rattoo

THIS was a potential banana skin for table toppers Tralee Celtic but they came through with flying colours with a comprehens­ive win.

John Farragher was the man of the match with a hat trick while Fergal Moynihan and Anthony Murphy completed the scoring for the winners.

Celtic”s win keeps them level with Mitchels Avenue at the top of the table and very few would bet against these two sides contesting the league final However if they slip up along the way Killorglin could come in from the cold and perform a smash and grab.

Mitchels Avenue 3 CSKA Tralee 1

MITCHELS Avenue remain on parity with Tralee Celtic after an important win over CSKA Tralee at Mounthawk Park on Sunday. After going in arrears in the first half Mitchels Avenue came back strongly and goals from Lorcan Seymour, Sean O’Reilly and Nathan O’Leary gave them a comfortabl­e win at the end. With just 4 games left to play Mitchels Avenue are looking good for a place in the final.

Killorglin 2 AC Athletic 1

KILLORGLIN hosted AC Athletic under lights on Saturday night and they were anxious to bounce back after the previous weeks defeat to Mitchels Avenue.

They showed they meant business from the very outset going ahead after 5 minutes

Some enterprisi­ng movement up front by Ryan Keane created space for Liam Carey and he slotted home to put the Launesider­s ahead.

They doubled their lead 10 minutes later with some good pressure from Dylan O’Sullivan and Ryan Keane leaving Paul McKenna one on one with the AC keeper and he held his composure admirably and made it 2-0.

A C then enjoyed a good spell of possession but they could not get the better of Killorglin keeper Jason Browne who was in great form.

Killorglin created a number of chances early in the second half but could not make them count.

Then they made a few changes in personnel introducin­g Tony Lyons, Ricky Flaherty and Ryan O’Riordan which bolstered their confidence.

At this stage AC began to put on some pressure and they pulled one back in the 75th minute with a looping shot by Jordan Brick from 25 yards finding the back of the net. However, Killorglin held firm to the end to clinch the three league points.

With both Mitchels Avenue and Tralee Celtic winning their games also Killorglin will need a bit of

Skeliga FC 0 Atletico Ardfert 4

ATHLETICO Ardfert moved up to joint third in the table after a comfortabl­e win over Skeliga FC who need a few wins to steer clear of the relegation zone.

Tom Maloney, Trevor Wallace, Bobby O’Regan and Jack McCarthy scored for the winners.

CG Killarney 0 Inter Kenmare B 0

CG Killarney closed the gap on tabletoppe­rs QPR to three points but they really needed a win to enhance their chances of making it to the final.

Best for CG were Mike Murphy, Ger Foley and Dave Keirns.

Now Athletico Ardfert and Ballyheigu­e are getting into a strong posiition and CG may run out of games unless the other sides drop points in their remaining games.

DENNY U-17 LEAGUE

Killarney Athletic 2 Mastergeeh­a 1

KILLARNEY Athletic were lucky to come away with the 3 points in a game where a share of the spoils would have been a fairer result. Connie Cremin and Caolan Ryan scored for Athletic. Callum Backer was the Mastergeeh­a scorer. luck and see them drop points in their final four games if they are to claim a place in the final but it is an outside chance now but no doubt they will keep the pressure on till the end.

Rattoo Rovers 2 Classic FC 1

A BRACE of goals from Liam Boyle gave Rattoo Rovers their first win of the season at Ballyduff on Sunday. If they can string a few more wins together they may yet survive relegation. Anthony O’Leary scored for Classic FC.
