€200 fine for man found with heroin in Listowel
A MAN who admitted to the possession of heroin at an apartment in Listowel last year was fined €200 at District Court in the town.
Denis Mulcahy, with an address at 6 Riverview, Ballyhahill, Co Limerick, was charged with the possession of ‘diamorphine’ on May 24, 2017, at apartment 3, No 1 The Square, Listowel.
Gardaí told the Court that officers detained and searched the man under the provisions of the Misuse of Drugs Act as he exited the apartment at 8.24pm on the date. A search of the premises later uncovered a number of bags of heroin and Mr Mulcahy admitted owning one of the bags, carrying a street value of €20.
Mr Mulcahy’s solicitor said his client was now attending a drug-rehabilitation programme in an attempt to ‘deal with his drug issues’; and has not used heroin in the last couple of months.
Judge David Waters, presiding, imposed a fine of €200 on the defendant.
