DEATHS

The death took place of Peter Scan­nell, Bish­op­scourt, Bal­ly­duff and for­merly of Shrone & Lon­don. His re­mains were re­moved from Lawlor’s Fu­neral Home to SS Peter’s & Paul’s Church, Bal­ly­duff. Burial was in Ra­hela Ceme­tery. The death took place of John Joe Wynne, Rat­too, Bal­ly­duff. His re­mains were re­moved from Lawlor’s Fu­neral Home, Bal­ly­duff to SS Peter’s & Paul’s Church. Burial was in Ra­hela Ceme­tery. The death took place of David Sow­den, Shan­non View, Ferry Road, Bal­ly­duff and late of Corn­wall & Hay­ward’s Heath, Sur­rey, Eng­land. He re­posed at his home in Ferry Road and was fol­lowed by pri­vate cre­ma­tion.Sym­pa­thy is ex­tended to the fam­i­lies, rel­a­tives & friends of the above de­ceased. 9th April in St. Mary’s Church, Bal­ly­heigue and burial after­wards in the Holy Fam­ily Ceme­tery. May he rest in peace. Sadly missed by his lov­ing fam­ily (pre­de­ceased by his lov­ing son Colm), his wife Joan, daugh­ters Moira and Tara; Sis­ter Joan, sons-in-law Pa­trick and Joe, Grand­chil­dren Dar­ragh, Shawna and Holly, sis­ters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces and neph­ews, rel­a­tives, neigh­bours and friends.

GAA LOTTO:

The fol­low­ing num­bers were drawn at last Sun­day’s GAA Lotto: 11-21-23-24. The Jack­pot of €8,150 was not won. Next week’s Jack­pot will be €8,200. The two €50 win­ners were: Therese Stack, Bal­ly­mac­quinn and Mary Ty­nan, Cliff Road. The €25 win­ner was Dar­ren Stack, Tiduff.

BAD­MINTON

Well done to Pat Brown who won the Paddy Su­grue Di­vi­sion 5 Mixed tour­na­ment in the Sports Com­plex, Tralee last Sun­day.

And to Mau­rice Lawlor who was on the win­ning team in the Mas­ters Tour­na­ment in Kil­lar­ney re­cently. Also to Edel Brod­er­ick who was on the Mun­ster Grade A team that won the All-Ire­land in­ter­provin­cial Cham­pi­onships in Dublin last Sun­day.

Un­for­tu­nately no luck for out Div 4 Mixed team go­ing down nar­rowly to Moy­vane in the County fi­nal. The team was John McDonnell, Kevin O’Ma­hony, Colum Car­roll, Colm Grif­fin, Kath­leen Gil­bride, Paula O’ Sul­li­van, Siob­han Col­bert and Lil­ian Holmes. Bet­ter luck next year.

Fi­nally four of our ju­ve­niles picked up ei­ther win­ners or run­ner up medals in Kil­lar­ney re­cently. They were Adam Di­neen, Peter Fitzgerald, Muiris Harty and Ais­ling Harty.

ST. BREN­DANS’AC

Out­door train­ing is be­gin­ning this Wed­nes­day evening for all ju­ve­niles from U7 up­wards in the as­tro-turf pitch in Banna Beach Ho­tel from 7 to 8pm. New mem­bers are wel­come. Adult train­ing be­gins shortly also.

A cheque was handed over to the Mau­rice Collins Vin­tage Day com­mit­tee last week by St Bren­dan’s after the well-sup­ported Vin­tage Day fun run hosted by the club to raise funds for Down Syn­drome Kerry and Kerry Hos­pice Foun­da­tion. Thanks to all ath­letes and vol­un­teers who helped to make the event a suc­cess.

Well done to Ben O’Con­nor who was awarded his full marathon wrist­band at Tralee Ju­nior Park run on Sun­day for com­plet­ing 21 Park runs.

NO POSTERS PLEASE

Bal­ly­long­ford Tidy Towns is now join­ing the grow­ing num­ber of Tidy Towns or­gan­i­sa­tions through­out the coun­try re­quest­ing that no ref­er­en­dum/elec­tion posters be erected within the 50km spec­i­fied zone on any ap­proach road to and within the vil­lage. Posters are a blight on the coun­try­side and streetscape, of­ten a num­ber of them com­pet­ing for space on the same pole. These posters are also viewed neg­a­tively by Tidy Towns Judges. There are more ef­fec­tive meth­ods of com­mu­ni­ca­tion in 2018.

KERRY COUNTY CLEAN UP

April 14th is fast ap­proach­ing. Bal­ly­long­ford Tidy Towns will be set up in the parish hall at 10am co­or­di­nat­ing groups and give out gloves and bags, so why not join in ! Maybe some can get a gang to­gether to lit­ter pick and clean up where you live? If that Satur­day doesn’t suit there are other days in April that you could or­gan­ise it for. We can pro­vide you with gloves and bags and ar­range for the bags to be col­lected.

GIRLS FOOT­BALL

U14: The Girls U 14s had their first ever game in the County U 14 League on Good Fri­day and had a great vic­tory over Churchill. Driven on by their Cap­tain Emily O Re­gan all the girls were out­stand­ing. In the first half Maeve Slat­tery got a goal and two points, and fur­ther points from Ella Grif­fin and Ciara Knightly saw An­nascaul lead at Half time by 1-4 to 0-2. Emily O Re­gan hit a goal and two in the sec­ond half and an­other point from Maeve Slat­tery saw An­nascaul win by 2-07 to 0-4. Team : Aine Han­nifin, Alice Fer­riter, Shona O Brien, Siun Deely, Mary Casey, Ab­bie Mo­ri­arty, Emily O Re­gan, Aine Fo­ley, Ella Grif­fin, Ciara Knightly, Or­laigh Clif­ford, Maeve Slat­tery, Grainne O Dwyer, Ava Bar­rett. Best of luck to Fia Spil­lane who is out in­jured at the mo­ment.

U 12: The Girls u 12 team also had their first League game re­cently and gave a great dis­play de­spite be­ing de­feated by Austin Stacks. A strong Stacks team got three goals in the first half but An­nascaul dom­i­nated the sec­ond half with great scores from No­rah O Driscoll and Grainne O Dwyer. Fi­nal Score Austin Stacks 3 -5 An­nascaul 0-4. This is a very young team and they are mak­ing great im­prove­ments at train­ing ev­ery week. CAMP YOUTH CLUB

Camp Youth Club wish to thank ev­ery­one who baked, brought and bought at their re­cent Cof­fee Morn­ing & Cake Sale. €720 was raised and CYC wish to make a €100 do­na­tion to Camp De­fib Group. Go raibh míle Maith agaibh go léir. Rovers next Sun­day morn­ing at 11am in the kdl in what is a huge game for both teams. This game was post­poned at short no­tice last week­end.
