O’Shea ap­pointed mi­nor cap­tain

PAUL O’Shea of Kil­cum­min was con­firmed as the 2018 Kerry Mi­nor Cap­tain on Mon­day evening, the last one that the County Mi­nor Cham­pi­ons (in this case East Kerry) will have in­put into. This fol­lows re­cent changes agreed in giv­ing team man­age­ment con­trol over the selec­tion from 2019 on­wards.

O‘Shea is the se­cond Kil­cum­min cap­tain of the Kerry Mi­nors this decade after Gary O’Leary in 2011 and a third since Paul McCarthy cap­tained the 1997 Kerry Mi­nors to a Mun­ster ti­tle. O’Shea is also is a first cousin of his im­me­di­ate pre­de­ces­sor as Kerry Mi­nor Cap­tain, David Clif­ford. Should Kerry pre­vail tonight they could face Cork in a Mun­ster Mi­nor Semi-Fi­nal next month at home pro­vided the Rebels de­feat Water­ford in their open­ing game. Clare host Lim­er­ick in tonight’s other open­ing Mun­ster Mi­nor quar­ter-fi­nal.
