THE bonfires were blazing in Glenbeigh on Sunday evening as the town came out to welcome home 4 All Ireland Handball champions. The club’s players won both the All Ireland 40x20 Masters A and Junior A Doubles finals at Kingscourt in Cavan.

The Masters A 40X20 doubles decider saw Dominick Lynch and John Joe Quirke take on the Antrim pair of Sean Devine and Seamus O’Touma. The Kerry pair won a tight first game 21-17, but proved much too strong in the second game winning 21-9.

The Juniors A Doubles final was a much tighter affair. In this Jack O’Shea and Rory O’Connor took on Gaelon Riordan and Barry McWilliams from Wexford.

It was the Leinster pair that got off to the much better start winning the first game 21-4. However, the Glenbeigh boys turned things around taking the second game 21-17 to set up the decider.

Here again it was O’Shea and O’Connor that proved to be the stronger and took the title 21-17, 21-12. This rounded up a memorable day for the club and another four All Ireland medals are in the Glenbeigh trophy cabinet.
