Recreating Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper in Jumbos for Listowel Visual Arts Week

-

IF you can’t make the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan, there’s always Jumbos!

The former houses the original Leonardo da Vinci masterpiece of The Last Supper; one of the most iconic artworks of all time.

But now, thanks to the efforts of one of the most iconic chippers of the late 20th Century, art fans can really get to grips with the mise-en-scene of the piece in a vibrant new version – a recreation featuring the staff of Jumbos and friends.

“It’s all part of the forthcoming Listowel Visual Arts Week, running from Wednesday, June 20 until Sunday 24, and we did a re-enactment of the painting to open a photo competition we are sponsoring for the Week,” Damien O’Mahony - of Jumbos and the organising committee of the Arts Week – told The Kerryman.

“The idea is that people would pose recreating a famous or iconic artwork like we did and enter it in the competition.

“We’re really excited ahead of the inaugural Arts Week with a whole host of events taking place from workshops dealing with a variety of materials and styles to on-street painting events and much more,” Damien explained.

One of Listowel’s great powerhouses of artistic creativity, the Olive Stack Gallery, is heavily involved in the programme as Olive and co celebrate 20 years in the premises. Many of Olive’s visiting resident artists will be taking part with, word has it, two highly-regarded international names coming to Listowel to lead workshops.
