Tuosist V Sneem/Derrynane 14:00 KERRY began their Munster campaign with a very impressive display last Sunday in Fitzgerald Stadium.
It was great to see seven players get their championship début. Overall the team showed pace and they moved the ball in quick. Any day a team puts 32 points on the scoreboard has to be considered a positive day.
However, there will be tougher tests ahead and Éamonn Fitzmaurice referred to the evolving situation as a ‘work in progress’. The subs that came on very much contributed to the game and one can only assume that there is great competition for places given the high energy levels right to the final whistle!
There was a great turnout in the magnificent sun-drenched Fitzgerald Stadium and the Kerry supporters certainly were very vocal in showing their appreciation for the great effort put in by all involved.
It was great having the ladies game play in the curtain raiser and congratulations to the Kerry ladies on their great win on Sunday. It was great to see sisters and brothers tog out for Kerry and play on the same day in Fitzgerald Stadium.
The primary school pupils selected to play in the half time game gave a great account of themselves and certainly did their families and clubs proud. Well done to the múinteoirí involved with the teams on the day.
For those that missed out on meeting the players after the game, you have another chance to meet some of the Kerry players in the Kerry GAA Store next Saturday from 12 until 2 as they will be present to launch an exclusive line of team wear. Everyone is welcome to come meet them.
We are now through to the Munster Final where we meet Cork in Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Saturday, June 23 at 7pm.
This will be a far bigger challenge for this young Kerry side but no doubt they will be well prepared and ready to do battle to retain their Munster title.
