TOURISTS ARRIVE

It is good news to hear that there is an early influx of tourists to the county. One day last week some nine buses were waiting at Tarbert to board the Shannon Car Ferry crossing to Killimer. The second ferry was introduced on 18 May, a week earlier than usual for this time of year. There are now half hourly sailings from Tarbert to Killimer between 9.30 am and 6.30 pm. PLAYING FOR THE DUBS

Making his debut on this year’s Dublin Minor Football team is Conor Hessessy, son of Maurice Hennessy, Dublin and Tarbert. He was one of the scoring forwards on the team which narrowly lost to Meath in defence of their Leinster title. My GAA sources tell me that his grandfather, Michael was a ‘dangerous’ corner forward when he played with Beale Rangers. Má tá bréag ann ná cur an milleán ormsa.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY

As I go to press, word has come through of the death of our esteemed parishioner, friend and colleague, the late Johnny Coolahan. Johnny was a member of the Historical Society and had promised to give us a talk on a subject very close to his heart - the history of Irish Education. Unfortunately his illness meant he had to cancel his talk. On behalf of the Historical and Heritage Society and friends everywhere we tender our sympathies to his wife Mary, son William, daughters Marie Louise, Iseult and Deirdre. Suaimhneas siorai dá anam uasal dilis. The next meeting of the Historical Society will take place on Saturday 16 June at 7.30 pm in the Bridewell.
