Kerry man’ s popularity went far beyond county bounds

THE sudden death of Tony O’Sullivan, Goulanes, Castlecove and Park Road, Dunmanway, County Cork, occurred on the September 23 at the young age of 49.

Tony went to Caherdanie­l National School and Waterville Vocational School. He then started his working career at O‘Carroll’s Cove as a barman at the age of 16 and moved onto The Parkway Hotel Dunmanway for the following 20 years.

In 2005 Tony set up his own business, A to Z Bouncing Castles and Marquees, which proved a very successful business, travelling the length and breath of Cork, Kerry and beyond.

In his time in Dunmanway, he met his wife Sinead and started their family, Luke and Roisin, but sadly lost Baby James at birth.

Tony was well known which was evident by the large numbers that attended his funeral. Up in Cork he was fondly known as ‘The Kerryman’ many not knowing his real surname.

Tony’s passion was football, Kerry being his first love he and went to most Kerry games.

Even though he was no doubt a Kerryman and played with Derrynane GAA at an under-age level, the Doheny GAA Club played a massive part in his life, where he had great success. He was player, selector and manager in which he managed the Junior B team who won the West Cork Championsh­ip in 2015. He was also team manager of the U21 A footballer­s who won the West Cork Championsh­ip in 2017.

Tony’s remains reposed at O’Neill’s Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 25 and removal was to St Patrick Church on Wednesday evening with his Funeral Mass on the Thursday afternoon. He is buried at St Finbarr’s Burial Ground.

The huge attendance showed how popular and well liked ‘The Kerryman’ was, with one of the biggest Guards of Honour ever seen in Dunmanway, made up of Doheny GAA Club members and his close friends.

Tony is predecease­d by his son James and his parents Brendan and Mary O’Sullivan. Tony is survived by his wife Sinead, son Luke and Daughter Roisin.

His sisters Paula and Sheila, brothers John Paul and Adrian brothers-in-laws, sisters-inlaws, nieces, nephews, his mother-in-law & father-in-law, aunts, uncles and extended family. R.I.P Tony.

Mass will be offered in remembranc­e of Tony at the Church of The Most Precious Blood, Castlecove, on Saturday, October 20, at 7.30pm.
