Killorglin’s very grand variety of local talent

- By TADHG EVANS

FROM group and choral singing to solo singing, pipe-playing to comedy, dancing to poetry, it would seem the Grand Variety Concert at the CYMS hall in Killorglin will have all bases covered from 8pm on November 8.

Organised by Music Connect and Killorglin Archive Society, there’ll be a meitheal of entertainers at the famous venue on the night, but there’ll also be something of a nostalgic tinge to proceedings as well.

Killorglin Archive Society’s Johnny ‘Porridge’ O’Connor has promised a screening of old performers who’ve passed away also, making this a celebration of Killorglin-area talent both past and present.

“We’ll also be streaming it out on the night, with a link to be made available at a later stage,” he said. “This is a celebration of the talent we have here, our culture, and our diaspora. There’ll be performers on screen on the night that some of our younger people might not have seen before.

“We have it in mind to run further shows in the future, because this is only scratching the surface of what he have and had here.”

Tickets cost €12, and the event is compered by Irish Film and Television Academy CEO Áine Moriarty.

To get your place at the event sorted, you can get in touch with Killorglin CYMS at (066) 9762053. Alternatively, call in, or get in touch with the organisers.
