Young talents hit all the right trad notes at Cathedral
THIS year’s series of performances by students at Killarney School of Music ended on a high note as they filled St Mary’s Cathedral with traditional tunes on Saturday night. The talents, who are part of the Stage Works classes, left fond melodic memories with all who attended their fourth and final performance of this year.
“There are a core group of people who will come to these performances in the Cathedral, but this event attracted many more people and tourists, which is vital for the pupils and is the aim of these performances,” Padraig said,” head of the school Padraig Buckley said, adding:
“These concerts give great live performance experience to upcoming musicians. In the weekly classes, they prepare for these events and learn everything about the disciplines and logistics of live performances.”
The participants performed music, song and dance taking inspiration from traditional
Irish music along with traditional material from other Celtic nations.
“The concerts have gone very well with a lot of great feedback from performers and attendees. All the concerts were admission free, but monies from a retiring collection on the way out goes towards the maintenance and upkeep of the church.”
