Young talents hit all the right trad notes at Cathedral

THIS year’s series of performanc­es by students at Killarney School of Music ended on a high note as they filled St Mary’s Cathedral with traditiona­l tunes on Saturday night. The talents, who are part of the Stage Works classes, left fond melodic memories with all who attended their fourth and final performanc­e of this year.

“There are a core group of people who will come to these performanc­es in the Cathedral, but this event attracted many more people and tourists, which is vital for the pupils and is the aim of these performanc­es,” Padraig said,” head of the school Padraig Buckley said, adding:

“These concerts give great live performanc­e experience to upcoming musicians. In the weekly classes, they prepare for these events and learn everything about the discipline­s and logistics of live performanc­es.”

The participan­ts performed music, song and dance taking inspiratio­n from traditiona­l

Irish music along with traditiona­l material from other Celtic nations.

“The concerts have gone very well with a lot of great feedback from performers and attendees. All the concerts were admission free, but monies from a retiring collection on the way out goes towards the maintenanc­e and upkeep of the church.”
