Threshing Cancer comes good for variety of groups
THE success of any event is its final proceeds and Threshing Cancer can rightly take a bow having raised €32,000 for cancer charities across the county this year.
The annual event in Beaufort is an eagerly anticipated social history and family fun day. Not only was the event’s activities enjoyed by people from all over Kerry but now the funds raised will help thousands of cancer patients in Kerry.
The event is organised by Brendan Ferris and thousands attended the event in September on his farm. The day includes demonstrations of threshing down through the years as well as old style cooking. Family fun, music and a little bit of everything else is also part of the day.
Mr Ferris handed over the proceeds to the chosen charities on Friday last in Galvin’s bar in Beaufort. Representatives from the charity were on hand on the night.
The Kerry Hospice Foundation and Recovery Haven Kerry are two of the main beneficiaries of the funds and both are most grateful for the generous donations that will help both organisations to continue to provide vital support to cancer patients in Kerry.
Proceeds from the event were also donated to the Kerry Cork Health Link Bus which brings cancer patients to Cork for treatment.
The Oncology Unit at UHK also received funds and St Joseph’s Home in Killorglin, also very worthy causes.
Since the event began, more than €170,000 has been raised for cancer charities in Kerry including this weekend’s donations and Mr Ferris hopes to continue to support cancer charities through his annual event. He was delighted to hand over the money again this year to charities that need such public support.
