Signing away the basic principles of our freedom

-

SIR, Cllr Gleeson is right to defend the choice of doctors to refuse participation in abortion (Letters page October 24). The wonder is that he should have to make this case at all, a century or so after our people fought a war of national independence.

What is the matter with people, whose allegiance to the new elite of our country is such that they are prepared to sign away the most basic principles of our freedom?

It was good that Peter Casey stood up to the status quo in the Presidential election. He got my number one. And it was good to note, as early as the morning after the election, that many among the ‘talking heads’ had crowd and various anonymous keyboard warriors, there can be no racism when talking about members of the same race as ourselves – in this case the Irish race. stopped calling him names, or saying he had stumbled on a single issue that ignited public interest.

I have not met Mr Casey, but he was supported by people who feel the failures in health, rural broadband, rental accommodation and homelessness, and that no heads appear to roll among the agenda people.

People feel also that censorship is back, big time; and that George Hook, Kevin Myers and Peter Casey were derided or plain run out of town by a subservient media. Sincerely,

Gerald O’Carroll, Dooradoyle, Limerick. Sincerely,

Seán Seosamh Mairtín Ó Conchubhair,

Daingean Uí Chúise.
