THE GAME IN 60 SECONDS
MAIN MAN
The obvious choice is Shane Conway, whose silken skills were the key ingredient at pivotal moments in proceedings. All six defenders had claims for notable mention, while Colin Sheehy was every inch a key attacker, scoring the goal which separated the teams at the end. However, given that three forwards on both sides failed to register scores, Conway’s tally in double figures was the significant factor.
KEY MOMENT
Given that the result remained on a knife-edge for such a prolonged period there wasn’t really a decisive moment which swung the pendulum firmly in favour of either side. With just three points separating the teams with one minute of normal time remaining Cashel pushed forward in search of an equalising goal. Shane Conway’s insurance score in added time ultimately was the moment which sealed the outcome.
TALKING POINT
With the game clashing with the County Football Final in Tralee there was some opinion expressed about the feasibility of what would have been a most attractive double header. That was never going to be possible given that the competitions are run by different administrative boards. However with the facilities which were available, and the level of organisation by the host club, this was a standout sporting fixture.
