Tralee edge out Killorglin/Iveragh in Under 14 league

WEST MUNSTER UNDER 14 LEAGUE

Tralee 31 Killorglin/Iveragh 27

TRALEE and Killorglin / Iveragh served up a classic game of underage rugby at O’Dowd Park last Saturday.

Tralee came out of the blocks with all guns blazing and went in for three converted tries in the opening 10 minutes. There was no score for the remainder of the half as the Killorglin / Iveragh side showed great mettle to keep a rampant Tralee outfit at bay.

Killorglin / Iveragh started the second half as they finished the first with plenty of good rucking. Some good play from the backs saw their captain Enda O’Shea go over for Killorglin / Iveragh first try.

The rest of the game was a ding dong affair and Micheal Sullivan, Adam Casey (2) and Callum O’Sullivan scored tries for Killorglin / Iveragh.

MUNSTER UNDER 16 CONFERENCE 2

Castleisland 10 Listowel/Tralee 21

THIS was a very entertaining game played in bitter cold but dry conditions at the Crageens last Saturday.

Castleisland stormed into the lead after a well worked try by Jordan O’Sullivan Coffey. The home side suffered a body blow soon afterwards when the impressive O’Sullivan Coffey was forced off injured, and Listowel soon took advantage when they touched down for a converted try.

The second half was well contested but a breakaway converted try from the visitors saw them storm nine points ahead with 10 minutes left to play. Credit to Castleisland who worked the ball up the field and Darragh Kelly touched down to leave four points between the teams.

Listowel /Tralee weren’t finished, however, and they struck once more at the death with a converted try to secure victory.

KILLORGLIN played down the hill in the first half and soon romped into a 13-0 lead thanks to tries from Conall Whelan and Jack O’Leary, with James Byrne adding a penalty.

Strong running from RCD’s Caolan Ryan, recently back from injury, saw Jimi Fenton score a good try and the home side were back in the game.

RCD now began to play with a new found belief. Jimí Fenton capitalised on a good turnover by Seamus Greaney to score RCDs second try. Disaster struck for Killorglin soon afterwards when they were reduced to fourteen players following a straight red card.

The reduced numbers didn’t deter Killorglin who struck back with some well worked breakaway tries from Derry O’Sullivan and Ruari Dorrian with James Byrne adding the conversions.

Jimi Fenton struck once more for RCD with just four minutes remaining to bring his points total to 21. The gap was now down to just 2 points. Killorglin were then reduced to thirteen players, but they defended stoutly and held out for victory.
