COOKERY DEMONSTRATION
Scartaglen Ladies Football Club are bringing top chef Mark Doe to Scartaglen Heritage Centre on Thursday night November 15th at 7.30pm. Mark will give a demonstration on Christmas cooking and tickets which cost E10 are now available from all club members.
MASSES FOR HOLY SOULS
There will be mass for the Holy Souls in Scartaglen Church on Monday night November 5 and on Monday night November 19th at 8pm each evening. Everyone welcome.
SOCIAL AFTERNOON
Castleisland and District Social Club will hold a social afternoon in Castleisland Day Care Centre on Sunday next November 4th from 2pm 5pm. Everyone welcome.
TROCAIRE VOLUNTEERS
Fr Michael Moynihan who served in this parish some years back is seeking Trocaire Parish Volunteers. Trocaire supports some of the worlds most vulnerable people in the developing world while also raising awareness of injustice and global poverty in Ireland. The Trocaire Support Group are a group of committed individuals who meet three times a year in Killarney to organise initiatives in their communities for Trocaire.

LOURDES EASTER PILGRIMAGE
The Irish Pilgrimage Trust are now accepting applications for their Easter Pilgrimage to Lourdes. Young people aged 1130 years with a variety of special needs including physical and medical conditions, learning difficulties or a young person who may have experienced some challenges in their life are all eligible to apply. This pilgrimage provides respite care for parents and guardians and a free trip for the young person. Closing date for receipt of applications is this Wednesday October 31st. HOSPICE COFFEE MORNING
Castleisland Hospice Fundraising Committee wish to thank everyone who helped out, donated or held a coffee morning as part of their annual fundraising drive. Proceeds from the combined coffee mornings came to €4,461. The committee also wish to thank for recent donations received amounting to €3,045.

November is traditionally the month of the Holy Souls and the following ceremonies will take place In St.Mary’s Church. Thursday 1st.November is a holy day of obligation, the Feast of All Saints, and Mass will be celebrated at 11.30am. The Wednesday Vigil Mass will be celebrated in Ballylongford at 7pm. Friday is the Feast of All Souls and Mass will be celebrated at 10am in Tarbert.
As in previous years there will be a Tree of Remembrance in the Sanctuary and you are invited to write the names of those you wish to remember on a card and place it on the tree. The names of the deceased will be remembered at Masses during the month of November. Grave candles will be on sale at €2 each in the Church. There will also be a Walk for the Holy Souls and a Coffee morning and Cake Sale at 10am in the Community Centre on Saturday 17th.November. Full details next week.
PUPPET SHOW
There will be a Halloween Puppet Show this Wednesday 31st.October at 6.30pm sharp at Tarbert Bridewell. For the braver souls there will be a Fright Night in the Jail - We dare you to enter! You can scream and roar but no weapons are allowed. This takes place from 6.30 to 8.30pm and the entry fee is €5
HALLOWEEN PARADE
A Halloween Parade organised by Tarbert Development Association will take place on next Friday 2nd. November. The parade will lead off from the Square at 7pm. All ages are encouraged to dress up in their spookiest and scariest costumes. At the end of the parade there will be goodies and entertainment on the Green opposite the Bridewell. Come along, get into costume and enjoy the fun.
THE HONEY SPIKE
The parish is eagerly looking forward to the Tarbert Theatre Players production of Bryan MacMahon’s famous play ‘ The Honey Spike’. Described as a story of love and hate, of birth and death it will be a very challenging production for the Players and should attract full houses over two nights in Tarbert and four nights in Listowel. Producer Mary Lavery Carrig describes this as the most ambitious project the Tarbert Players have undertaken and they have worked hard in rehearsals for the past couple of months.
Tickets at €10 each are on sale at Tarbert Pharmacy and the show takes place in Tarbert Community Centre on Friday 9th. and Saturday 10th. November at 8pm. Buy your tickets now to avoid disappointment.
REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY
This year marks the centenary of the ending of the First World War on 11th November 1918. Over 700 Kerrymen died in what United States President Woodrow Wilson referred to as ‘the War to end all Wars’. Included in that number were 12 Tarbert born soldiers, six of whom died in 1918. This year as in previous years there will be a commemoration and remembrance service which will include wreath laying, prayers and hymns. The service will also remember the 2 Tarbert fatalaties of World War 2 and will take place at the Memorial Plaza at 12.30pm on Sunday 11th. November

WINDOW ON THE PAST
Described as Ireland’s first Aeronaut, Richard Crosbie undertook the first hot air balloon flight when he left the North Strand, Limerick on 27th April 1786. He set his course due west over the Shannon and a NNE current pushed him over Tarbert and part of North Kerry. He had his lunch and a bottle of wine while in flight. As the balloon ascended higher his heart beat rapidly and his ears felt as if they were going to burst. Currents carried him out over the area now occupied by Shannon Airport and this was the first craft to land there shortly after 6 o’clock. His balloon which had cost him £200 was damaged beyond repair. He subsequently gave up flying and emigrated to New York to pursue an acting career. parishioners departed this life since last November 1st. Also if anyone in the community have loved ones or relatives from outside the parish who died during the past year and wish to have their names included at the mass, should give name of deceased and date of death to the Sacristan before Thursday. There will be no 1030am mass on Sunday next.
COLLECTION
The annual collection for the upkeep of the two local cemeteries, Reilig na Tríonóide and the Old Cemetery at Church Road will take place on Sunday next. Both cemeteries are kept in excellent condition throughout the year. Donations from those who have burial plots in the cemeteries would be much appreciated.
COMHBHRÓN
The death occurred at her residence on Saturday last, October 20, of Josie O’Donnell (née Daly) Meenoline. Josie had reached a very fine age and was within a week and a half of her 95th birthday. She was born in 1923 to parents Dan Daly and Mary O’Mahony, Berna, Templeglantine West, third in a family of four. Josie was held in high regard by all who knew her and will be sadly missed by all. She was a devout lady, kind-hearted and welcoming. Her family was very important to her and took a great interest in her grandchildren and relatives. She liked her game of cards and loved to converse with people. She bore the loss of her son Gerard and daughter in law Ann, both at a young age and her husband Thomas who died 18 years ago. Her remains lay in repose at Harnett’s Funeral Home on Tuesday evening before removal to Templeglantine Church. Her son, Fr Chriss S.C.A., Argentina, was chief celebrant at the concelebrated Requiem Mass on Wednesday where former neighbour, Fr John Horan preached the homily. Afterwards burial took place in Reilig na Tríonóide. Josie is survived by her daughter, Catherine Kiely, sons Dan, Fr Chriss, Connie and Pat, brother Batt and other relatives. She will be sadly missed by her family, relatives, neighbours and friends. Go dtuga Dia suaimhneas síorraí dá hanam.
COMHALTAS AGM
The annual general meeting of the local Comhaltas craobh takes place at Halla Inse Bán on this Wednesday night, October 31 at 7.35pm (immediately after 7pm mass). It is hoped that as many members as possible will attend and new members are also welcome. It has been a busy year for the craobh with lots of activities culminating with successful hosting of the Comhaltas Tour of Ireland Concert recently.

Masses for the Feasts of All Saints and All Souls will be as follows, Wed, October 31, Mass of All Saints at 7pm. Friday, Nov 2, Holy Souls Morning Mass at 7am, Holy Souls Day Mass at 11am.
It was announced recently that there will be a change In the Sunday mass time as from November 11. On that date and onwards the Sunday mass will change from 10.30am to the earlier time of 10am.
