The Kerryman (North Kerry)

A tasty schedule of events at Listowel Food Fair

-

FINAL preparations are being put in place for the 24th annual Listowel Food Fair which will take place from November 8th12th. The Food Fair was established back in 1995 to celebrate the rich agricultural heritage of North Kerry and to support and promote local artisan food producers. The Food Fair committee also established the first Farmers’ Market in Listowel and has consistently promoted Listowel as a gourmet destination. Last year the committee sponsored a very successful social media campaign to promote the many restaurants that Listowel is fortunate to have in the town.

Over the years some of the leading TV personalities and celebrity chefs have taken part in the Food Fair. This year promises to be no different with Minister Michael Creed, Simon Delaney, Catherina McKiernan and Collette Twomey just a sample of the celebrity guests taking part in 2018. Due to the alarming increase in the level of breast cancer, with 680 deaths annually, the committee is organising an awareness workshop on prevention and screening as part of this year’s programme.

The Schools Food Academy has proven to be very popular in recent years with secondary schools from Kerry and Limerick taking part. This event will have over 400 students involved this year. Overall, there is something in Listowel Food Fair for all age groups from the very young to senior citizens. It’s a celebration of all elements of the food chain from farm to fork. Looking forward to seeing you there.
