Local Food Hero Award
LIZZY Lyons was the choice this year for The Listowel Food Fair Local Food Hero Award for 2018. ‘Lizzys Little Kitchen’ initiative was born in the local Farmers Market in 2014, which takes place every Friday in Listowel. The Food Fair committee started the market back in the 1990’s with the support and encouragement of Darina Allen.It is now a very important part of what the town has to offer for both locals and visitors alike. Lizzy has already been recognised by food writers John & Sally McKenna, the Restaurants Association of Ireland and the Irish Curry Awards.She is a brand Ambassador for Flogas and is a regular copresenter with Simon Delaney on TV3 She graduated from the Farmers Market in June 2015 and set up Lizzy’s Little Kitchen Pop Up, Main St. Ballybunion.Following its instant success Lizzy was motivated to open a restaurant in Listowel in 2016 in Lower William St. This is now considered one of the top ‘little restaurants’ in the country. Lizzy puts major emphasis on sourcing local food and avoiding the mass produced prodects thaks on offer in many of our native restaurants. She is a worthy winner of the award.
