ALZHEIMER’S CARERS

Alzheimer’s Carers Support group hold their November meeting on Tuesday the 13th at Listowel Family Centre at 12.30pm. area around the yard, including the shed interior, was painted in bright colours. The yard was then made a little safer as there were a number of deep holes between the slabs, and these were filled with concrete. Steel frames for benches were procured, and these have been cleaned, cut to size and painted. Signage was purchased and erected briefly to advertise the project. This will be re-erected in the coming weeks as the project moves to another phase when shed becomes operational as a greenhouse.

Work planned for the coming month include floor and roof sealing and painting. Steel sheeting is to be replaced with clear polycarbonate to allow the suns light and heat into the shed. Timber worktops are to be purchased, cut to size and finished before fitting them to the steel bench frames. When the shed becomes operational and following completion of the Garda Vetting process we aim to provide (a) some gardening education to local schoolchildren with the support of the schools, and (b) a social outlet for anyone who would like to get involved.

Thanks for your help to date goes to Dave Fitzgibbon of NEWKD who helped us get a SICAP Grant, Danny McElligott of CISCO Wood-frame Homes and Tommy Molyneaux and crew of Lixnaw Fabrications for your assistance with our work benches, Tom Anderson and Noel Keane of Castleisland for supplying the steel frames for these, Kate Guerin and all in Kingdom Cycling Club for financial support, and the McElligott family of Ballyhorgan for your help with painting, as well as all the staff at Scoil Mhuire Gan Smál for your encouragement.

Apart from improving the area aesthetically, providing some gardening tips and having a social outlet for everyone involved, we hope to support the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan and more information on this can be found at www. pollinators.ie. Progress with the project is being recorded and can be viewed on the Lixnaw Pollinator Project Facebook Page. We are always looking for extra hands so new volunteers are always welcome. If you are interested in finding out more, or better still getting involved, contact Laura-Jane on 085 166 4878 or email us at lixnawpollinatorproject@gmail. com.
