Fógra from Helen Flaherty : The first session of the Ballylongford / Tarbert CCE was held in Carmody’s Bar, Tarbert. Thanks to the parents and teachers who took the time to come along and for the children who put on a great performance. Classes will resume on this Friday, 9th.November in St.Oliver’s National School, Ballylongford.

HALLOWEEN

There was a good turn out of young and not so young, suitably attired, for a night of haunting horror and spooky fun culminating around the traditional bonfire at the Bridewell green. Colourful lanterns and fanged fearsome masks showed that we have come a long way from the simple snap apple and sixpence in the basin fun of our boyhood days. Windows were also very impressive with the Tidy Towns window very creative with the re-cycling message. Helen’s Salon window had an illuminated ghostly and ghoulish display that would literally make your hair stand up! Comhghairdeas do gach éinne a bhí páirteach.

REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY

This year marks the Centenary of the Armistice with the official ending on 11th. November 1918 of the First World War, euphemistically referred to as the Great War. Included in that number were 12 Tarbert born soldiers, six of whom died in 1918, one just two days before the guns went silent. This year as in previous years there will be a commemoration and remembrance service which will include wreath laying, prayers and hymns. The service will also remember the two fatalities from Tarbert in World War 2 and will take place at the Memorial Plaza at 12.30pm on Sunday 11th. November.

The organisation must first give the Regulator information about itself, so the Regulator can assess if it meets the requirements to be a charity. If the Regulator approves the application, it awards the organisation charitable status, gives it a Registered Charity Number and lists it on the charities register. You can search the charities register on charitiesregister.ie. It is an offence for an organisation to describe itself as a charity and carry out charitable activities, if it is not registered with the Charities Regulator.

The Regulator can appoint an inspector to investigate a charity’s affairs. The charity and its trustees must co-operate fully and give the inspector all the relevant accounts and documents.

The Regulator can choose to take a charity off the register -- for example, if it fails to comply with its financial obligations or give the Regulator the information it requires.

If you are concerned about a charity or its activities, you can raise a concern with the Charities Regulator. Further information is available from the Citizens Information Centre below.
