Lakers flying high after beating Eagles

Scotts Lakers Killarney 89

AFTER a closely contested first half, Scotts Lakers stamped their authority in the second half over UL Eagles and enjoyed a comfortabl­e 18 point victory in The UL Sports Arena, Limerick last Saturday night.

Exceptiona­l three-point shooting from the Killarney side with a total of 16 on the night along with excellent defence in the second half were the significan­t factors in this victory. With big Papito Hersisia making his presence felt early on, Scotts Lakers led 25-18 at the end of the first quarter but UL stayed in contention and the sides were level at 41 points apiece at the half time interval.

The Killarney side stepped it up in the third quarter. Dailian Mason and Sean O’Brien were on fire from three-point land to help their side open up a 71-57 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Scotts Lakers maintained their advantage throughout the final period restrictin­g the home side to a total of 30 points in the whole second half. Dailian Mason enjoyed his best game of the season shooting eight three-pointers from 10 attempts while the impressive Sean O’Brien nailed four from five attempts from downtown and was also outstandin­g grabbing ten rebounds.

Scotts Lakers also had solid performanc­es from Mark Greene, Seamus Brosnan, Andrew Fitzgerald, Justin Tuason, Shane McCarthy and Cian Clernon and remain in second place in the southern conference with a 9-2 record.

SCOTTS Lakers: Dailian Mason 27, Sean O’Brien 23, Papito Hersisia 17, Mark Greene 8, Seamus Brosnan 6, Andrew Fitzgerald 4, Justin Tuason 4.

UL: Tarchee Brown 26 Neil Campbell 13, David O’Connell 10.

HOME GAME

Scotts Lakers are at home in Killarney Sports Centre on this Saturday at 7.30 pm when they welcome Portlaoise Panthers. The sides clashed earlier in the season with the Lakers enjoying a 94-77 win. However, Portlaoise have improved considerab­ly since and secured a shock 75-71 win over Carlow last weekend. Impressive American Mike Pierre scored 32 points in that match to give Panthers a 7-5 winning record so far this season.

CUP GAME

It will be a busy week for Scotts Lakers who are also in action away to Fr Mathews next Tuesday November 27 at 8pm. This will be followed by one of the biggest home games of the season which is a national cup quarter final on Saturday December 1 at when Scotts Lakers host Limerick Celtics in Killarney Sports Centre. Supporters should note that this Cup match will take place at the earlier time of 7pm.
