A reputation for good stock is down to hard work...
LIVESTOCK is a competitive industry in Kerry and as a rule of thumb a core committee at Kingdom Mart work hard to ensure the highest quality cattle keep coming through its gates. It’s the way it’s always been in the mart’s 60 year history, and while times may change, attention to detail need not.
Reputation also counts for a lot in this game and Kingdom Mart appreciates the loyalty of its weekly customers. It’s a natural desire of every business to wish for more trade. But a better measure of success is the way a business successfully looks after the customer base it has.
“The mart business in Kerry is very competitive. The fact we’ve been holding our own over the years is a measure of success in itself. In terms of quality breeds, we don’t as yet have a lot of the Jersey cross influence in the stock coming through. There is a limited amount, but not a big amount which is important,” said Mart Manager, Philip Healy.
Running a mart is a balancing act. It’s a two-way process in that farmers must bring the stock to the mart and the climate must be right for a good sales pitch.
The mart at the end of the day is a sales ring where conditions must be favourable. This is something Kingdom Co- Operative Livestock Mart is committed to providing.
“We’re very fortunate that the vast majority of our customers buy into the concept of the service we provide. Like any business, customers are hugely important. On behalf of everyone at Kingdom Co- Operative Livestock Mart, I want to thank our customers for their loyalty over the past 60-years,” Philip said.
